Since joining DM&A in 1997, Mr. Goñi has become an expert on business valuation and economic damages. Now serving as a principal of the firm, he maintains a specialty in the appraisal of business goodwill and regularly presents on this topic before professional groups throughout the State of California. He opened DM&A’s Northern California office in 2000.
Mr. Goñi has provided testimony in both deposition and trial numerous times for eminent domain matters. He served as an expert witness in connection with two of the three most recent published California appellate court decisions concerning goodwill loss: People ex rel. Department of Transportation v. Dry Canyon Enterprises, LLC and Los Angeles Unified School District v. Rudy Casasola.
He has successfully completed all examinations of the business valuation discipline administered by the American Society of Appraisers. He serves as a Board Member of the Sacramento Chapter of the International Right of Way Association and was honored as the 2013 Professional of the Year. Mr. Goñi is the Chair of the California Board of Legal Specialization, which was created by the California Supreme Court in 1972 to certify attorneys as specialists in the state. He is the first non-attorney to lead this body since the program’s inception.
Mr. Goñi holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, where he majored in economics. His studies also included graduate level coursework in managerial accounting.
Mr. Goñi is fluent in Spanish and is also a private pilot.
