Because
of their complexity, the administration of class-action claims
involves management of extensive amounts of data and scrupulous
attention to detail. DM&A has handled cases with class members
numbering in the hundreds of thousands and settlement values
in the tens of millions of dollars. While the time required
to process and distribute proceeds of class-action litigation
can be lengthy, accuracy is paramount.
Administrative
duties that DM&A performs include developing and maintaining
a database of class members. We then follow agreed-upon class
notification procedures, including publication of notices
in various media, such as newspapers and the Internet, as
well as processing mass mailings to members of the class.
Throughout
the process, DM&A interacts with claimants, including answering
their inquiries and assisting them in resolving incomplete
or rejected claim applications. We assist in the design and
distribution of claim forms to class members, which are subsequently
validated according to established procedures. We then compute
the appropriate settlement amount for each class member based
upon the criteria established in the particular case. Finally,
we oversee distribution and ensure that all tax and other
legal forms are prepared and filed as necessary. Throughout
the process, we provide reports on the status of the project
to the court and other interested parties as required.
