Since joining DM&A in 1997, Mr. Goñi has become an expert on business valuation and economic damages. Now serving as a Principal of the firm, he maintains a specialty in the appraisal of business goodwill and regularly presents on this topic before professional groups throughout the State of California. He opened DM&A’s Northern California office in 2000.
Mr. Goñi has provided testimony in both deposition and trial numerous times for eminent domain matters. He served as an expert witness in connection with some of the most recent published California appellate court decisions concerning goodwill loss: People ex rel. Department of Transportation v. Presidio Performing Arts Foundation, People ex rel. Department of Transportation v. Dry Canyon Enterprises, LLC and Los Angeles Unified School District v. Rudy Casasola.
Mr. Goñi serves as a Board Member of the Sacramento Chapter of the International Right of Way Association. Additionally, he was the 2015-2016 Chair of the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar, which was created by the California Supreme Court in 1972 to certify attorneys as specialists in the state. He was the first non-attorney to lead this body since the program’s inception. Mr. Goñi is fluent in Spanish and is also a private pilot. Aside from flying around Northern California, he enjoys snow skiing, scuba diving, and traveling to far-flung places throughout the world.
